The Great Khmer Empire revisited
Remember Thomas Magyar and Tony Schiena? Not exactly, huh? Though these two former Hollywood stars might be passed my reader's generation, they sure made a splash back in mid-September 2009. Live at a press conference in Phnom Penh along with KK's Ministry of Information (Khieu Kanharith), they announced to the world of an ambitious film project unofficially entitled "The Great Khmer Empire." The film would relive the glory of the Angkor civilization that dominated arts, culture and politics for much of mainland Southeast Asia.
Tell me what you think about the movie poster and the film idea overall. How do you feel about non-Asians playing the role of such historical characters? Will Hollywood sensationalize and mis-interpret history again? And regionally, how will Thailand's government react?
